Get your trips out of TripIt

TripIt no longer gives API access to new developers. Here are three ways to get your trip data anyway: two of them free, one of them an API you can actually sign up for.

1. Export it yourself

Free, no account, about two minutes. Needs a computer, not a phone.

Open tripit.com and sign in.
Open your browser's developer console: F12 on Windows, Cmd+Option+J in Chrome on a Mac, then the Console tab.
Copy the script below, paste it into the console on the TripIt tab and press Enter. Chrome may ask you to type "allow pasting" first.
Wait. Your trips download as tripit-export.json.

What the script does

It reads your trips from TripIt using the session you are already signed in with, in your own browser.
It saves them to a file on your computer. Your trips are not sent to TripWaffle.
If the export fails, it sends us a short error report so we can fix it: which of two failures happened and how many trips it found. No trip details. Like any web request, it carries your IP address.
It never asks for your password. The whole script is below, so you can read every line first.

2. Let us do it for you

Free. Works on a phone. Your trips end up in a TripWaffle itinerary with live flight tracking.

Create a free TripWaffle account.
Enter your TripIt email and password on the import page, and we fetch every trip. It takes a few minutes, and we email you when it is done.
Your TripIt password is encrypted and kept for up to two hours, long enough to retry if TripIt blocks us, then deleted.
TripIt sometimes blocks these sign-ins. If that happens, or your account uses two-factor sign-in, route 1 still works, and you can upload the file on the same page.

Free forever. No credit card. After you sign in, you go straight to the TripIt import.

3. For developers: an API you can get today

Import your TripIt trips with route 1 or 2, then read and write them through TripWaffle.

Create a personal token yourself in Settings. No approval, no waiting list.
The API is an MCP server at https://tripwaffle.com/mcp: plain HTTPS and JSON-RPC with a bearer token. It works from curl, a script, or an AI assistant that supports MCP.
Tokens carry scopes: read to see trips, ingest to add bookings.
